About Norm Foster Properties

High-Quality Sustainable Living

At Norm Foster Properties, craftsmanship and care are the foundation of everything we build. Our story goes back to 1990, when we joined as a volunteer to help restore the historic Paterson House in Ottawa — a project whose attention to detail and respect for the original architecture earned an Award of Excellence for Historic Renovation. Seeing how quality work can bring a building back to life set the tone for everything that followed.

In 1994 we purchased our first multi-unit (a 5-plex) and began transforming each suite to a standard we’d be happy to live in ourselves. Managing and upgrading our own properties taught us what really matters for long-term performance: solid construction, good building science, and ongoing care. Over time, we rezoned and added homes across 11 properties, growing to 26 units.

The company is named for our father, Norm Foster, whose insistence on doing things properly still guides us. Today, we focus on energy-efficient, high-quality builds — combining proven methods with carefully chosen innovations like better envelopes, higher-performing windows, and smarter mechanical systems. The result is homes that are durable, comfortable, and easier to own over the long term.
